What is a non-traditional high school?

Invictus High School is high school reimagined – with the flexibility and staffing to serve students in a uniquely individual way.

Our school system embraces the entire student and uses the Invictus Way to support students through the things that might hold them back from completion – whether unique family needs, work/life balance, transportation and technological barriers, or something else entirely.

We know that education isn’t a one-size-fits-all thing, and our students come from all kinds of unique backgrounds:

  •  Students who want to accelerate their learning by working through at their own rapid pace.

  • Students who need a flexible schedule because they work or have other responsibilities that conflict with a traditional high school bell schedule.

  • Students who want to make the most of their high school experience with internships, hands-on job training and credentials, or post-secondary preparation (college or career).

  • Students who need or want smaller class sizes and more interaction with staff who know each student and their story.

  • Students who have fallen behind due to COVID learning difficulties or other life challenges who want to recover credit or catch up fast – to finish their high school journey strong.

  • Students who have more focus or energy in varied time of day.

We strive to provide the best alternative education in Ohio, and we have the receipts (link to testimonials and/or social tag).

TLDR: A high school that works with everyone to make sure high school works for them.

Are you an accredited high school?

We are! the Invictus High School System is accredited, and our traditional (16-21) and adult learner (22+) programs both culminate in the student earning a high school diploma with the appropriate seals approved by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.

Most recently, we completed the accreditation process in 2022 with Cognia and earned awards for being both a "System of Distinction" and "School of Distinction" for each campus.

TLDR: Yes, we are accredited.

What grades do you serve?

Invictus serves all high school students in grades 9 – 12.

What age student do you serve?

We’re flexible – Invictus High serves students aged 16-21 in our traditional program, with some exceptions for students under age 16 – if you are under age 16, contact us to confirm your eligibility.

Students over the age of 22 are eligible for our Adult Learning Program (ALP) offered through our Extensions Program (IHS – X).

TLDR: Pretty much anyone who has completed 8th grade.

What if I have credit from another school?

We are an accredited high school and accept transfer credits from all accredited high schools.  When you enroll with us, you’ll need to complete a records request form so that we can request a transcript from any other high schools you’ve attended.

We also offer credit recovery to help you finish any courses you may have started in the past – without having to start all over again.

TLDR: You can bring it with you.

Do I have to attend in person/every day?

Invictus High is not an online school, so the short answer is yes, but hear us out:

We adapt and flex to accommodate all our student’s needs, including remote support with credit flexibility to earn credit on your clock, weekend and evening remote instruction so that you can stay on track at any time that works for you, entirely remote-reporting available for adult learners, and the ability to put technology in your hands so you can earn credit from anywhere.

Plus—students can complete their work at their pace during their selected session without having to sit in a classroom grinding all day, so you can get in, get out, and get on with your life*

*minors only by guardian permission

TLDR: Yes, but we'll work out the details where we can.

Can I work while I attend high school?

The short answer: Yes!

The details: we encourage it. Invictus High works with our students to issue work permits, help them earn high school credit for working and work-ready skill building, works with community employers for internships (some even pay) and to support our students in applying, interviewing, and building skills for their job or future career.

Also—our career academies model helps students identify their career interests early and focuses their coursework toward earning credentials to give them an edge in a competitive job market so that they can exit high school job-ready ahead of their peers or prepared to enter post-secondary education.
